It has been a busy few weeks for the 2024 Leaving Cert cohort from Ramsgrange Community School. The much-anticipated results came out on Friday August 23 and many of the students then had an anxious wait for five days until the first round of CAO offers came out on August 25.
Overall, it was an extremely successful year for the Leaving Cert students of Ramsgrange Community School with many records being broken in relation to CAO points received. 14 students received over 450 points (pictured above) with two of those students, Ellie Byrne and Sarah White receiving over 550 points and one student, Kevin Voinea, achieving the maximum of 625 points. All of these results are an outstanding achievement for these students as well as for the rural DEIS school located in Southwest County Wexford. These achievements also stand as a reflection of the hard work and dedication put in by the students, their parents and guardians as well as the teachers and staff of the school in Ramsgrange.
It would be remiss not to make particular mention to the 20 LCA2 students of the school who also undertook exams in June as well as continuous assessment over the past two years. LCA is an alternative Leaving Cert that allows students to work consistently over a two year period and accumulate vital credits which then go towards their final results. Of the 20 students, each one received over 70% with 18 of them receiving Distinctions (above 85%), the highest result possible and the remainder receiving Merits (70-74%). Commenting on this high standard of results, which has been a consistent trend over the past few years, LCA Co-Ordinator Ms. Maeve Walsh said, “We are so proud of the hard work that these students put in over the two years. Their dedication over the course of their LCA meant they had accumulated a large percentage of their marks prior to the commencement of their final exams, which account for 35%.”.
A variety of pathways are now being embarked by the 2024 Leaving Cert cohort. Many of the students are now progressing onto third level education with students taking up courses in UCC, SETU Waterford, SETU Carlow, Trinity College Dublin, DCU, UL and University of Ulster, Derry to name but a few. The students are also undertaking a range of different courses varying from astro physics to communications, arts to sports & exercise science, maths & philosophy to medical and health sciences, nursing to IT amongst a plethora of others. The pathways were not just limited to third level courses with many taking up apprenticeships in plumbing, welding and electrical amongst others. A selection of students are also progressing on to PLC courses based in Waterford College of Further Education and elsewhere and others are entering into the world of work.
The school was extremely proud of the achievements of all members of the 2024 Leaving Cert cohort and a special morning was organised to celebrate and recognise the exceptional achievements of the 14 students who achieved over 450 points. These students were invited into the school along with their parents and guardians and presented with a certificate to mark their achievement and celebrate their academic excellence. Also present on the morning were the current 6th year and LCA2 students who had the opportunity to hear tips and tricks from the outgoing students on how they can aim to be in that position come 12 months from now. Speaking at the event, Principal Ms. Tracey Edwards commended the students on their fantastic results and achievements adding that it all came down to their hard work, dedication and resilience over the past two years and ended by wishing each and every one of them the best of luck as they progress on their journey.
