Development Education – Worldwise Global Schools

Ramsgrange Community School was awarded ‘A Citizen’s Passport’ by WorldWise Global Schools at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on April 21st for demonstrating an emerging engagement with Development Education.  This means that RCS demonstrated an increasing awareness and understanding of the rapidly changing interdependent and unequal world in which we all live.  It also indicates that RCS is on the way to making Development Education more visible in the school through supporting and engaging in actions that transform the social, cultural, political and economic structures which affect our lives at personal, community, national and international levels.

WHAT IS WORLDWISE GLOBAL SCHOOLS?

WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) implements Ireland’s development education programme for post-primary schools on behalf of Irish Aid. WWGS is a consortium comprising Gorta-Self Help Africa, Concern Worldwide and the City of Dublin Education and Training Board Curriculum Development Unit.

WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS), the Irish Government’s national Development Education programme for post-primary schools, will present the awards to student activists at its second annual conference.

Student delegates representing 45 schools across the country attended the WorldWise Global Schools conference, exhibited their projects, took part in interactive workshops and debates on topics as diverse as climate change, human rights, poverty, food and hunger, global conflict and gender equality.
